Black Buildup exists to confront and close long-standing gaps in funding access, leadership pathways, organizational capacity, and decision-making spaces that continue to limit Black and racialized communities, particularly in British Columbia and Western Canada.
Black Buildup is a Black-led ecosystem organization advancing inclusive entrepreneurship and economic opportunity in British Columbia and across Western Canada.
Founded to address systemic barriers faced by Black entrepreneurs and community organizations, Black Buildup works at the intersection of advocacy, training, partnerships, and ecosystem development to strengthen nonprofits, businesses, and community leaders, and to expand access to capital and markets.
Through collaboration with governments, financial institutions, universities, and community organizations, we are helping build a more inclusive and resilient economic future.
To empower Black-led and Black-serving organizations through training, partnerships, and ecosystem development that drive inclusive business growth, job creation, and social change.
A vibrant and self-sustaining Black entrepreneurship and community leadership ecosystem in British Columbia and across Canada, innovative, interconnected, and community-driven, where entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and community organizations have equitable access to capital, markets, networks, and institutional support.
Black Buildup's work has reached communities across Canada, strengthening entrepreneurship ecosystems and expanding opportunity for Black professionals and businesses.
Our work is holistic by design. We strengthen people, build organizational capacity, and partner with institutions and systems to move entire communities forward.
We focus on the places and challenges where our work can move the needle, not only incrementally, but structurally. By working across community development, policy engagement, and ecosystem building, Black Buildup contributes to lasting change while strengthening the leadership and capacity communities need for long-term sustainability.
Our work is concentrated in four interconnected areas: Community Leadership, Capacity Building, Strategic Partnerships, and Systems Change. These are not just program categories, they are the structural levers through which we address the root causes of inequity and build lasting pathways to opportunity.
Every initiative we lead is evaluated against one question: does this move communities forward in a way that endures beyond our involvement?
Black Buildup is led by a team of community builders, strategists, and advocates who bring lived experience and professional depth to every initiative we lead. Together, we are committed to the long-term empowerment of Black communities across Western Canada.
